Pastor Samuel N. Winston, Jr. is the fifth leader in succession of the Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, appointed in September 2004 by the then Senior Pastor, his father, S. N. Winston, Sr. He began as an apprentice musician in 1990, and was given the responsibility for the youth choir, which quickly grew to more than 60 young people, who ministered monthly at the church, and travelled across the country sharing God’s love through song. From 1998 to 2004, he maintained the position of Worship Pastor, where he was responsible for overseeing the music, usher, greeter, and audio ministries of the church. He is an example of servant leadership and as pastor, has become a voice to the Church to uphold the standards of holiness. Many regard him as eloquent, compassionate and practical leader, with a God‐given gift for encouraging to the total man.

With Pastor Winston’s leadership, the Mount Calvary church continues to do great exploits for God. During his tenure, the church has purchased and renovated a new worship facility, to the tune of over $1.2 million – all without debt. Using the vehicle of modern technology, he and Mount Calvary are now accessible world-wide through live streaming, with a viable Facebook presence, and through their weekly broadcast on DATV Spiritual Channel – Mount Calvary has become one of the most watched shows on DATV.
Pastor Winston was educated at the Miami Valley School in Dayton, Oh. After graduation, he attended the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dayton, having double-majored in music and political science.
As a visionary who is both inspiring and influential, Pastor Winston’s servant leadership is evident in the community as well. He serves as Chairman of the board of Unk’s Place – a group home for children in the foster care system. He has also served on the board of the Miami Valley School. He serves his state denominational work as the President of the Ohio Baptist General Convention. He has received numerous community awards, and like many great leaders before him, he is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
